ANDRÉS FELIPE OROZCO
The fresh-voiced lyric tenor was born in Cali, Colombia. He completed his degrees in journalism and music pedagogy at Valle University and simultaneously completed his vocal studies at the conservatory “Antonio María Valencia” in Cali with Margarita Castro-Alberty, with an emphasis on Lied/Song interpretation. He later studied at the Cologne Music Conservatory (Hochschule für Musik Köln), Aachen campus, with Dieter Schweikard and completed his Master’s degree there in classical voice with honors.
His wide-reaching repertoire, ranging from opera and operetta to Lied and Oratorio, has gained him entry to concert halls and theaters around the world, including Germany, Austria, England, Poland and, of course, his native Colombia. In 2000, Andrés Felipe Orozco received Honorable Mention in the vocal competition “Performers for the Next Century” in Bogotá and was an award recipient at the vocal competition in Wels, Austria in August 2004. He went on to participate in the Opera Köln International Opera Studio, following which he received an invitation to become a member of the house’s performing ensemble. He received the theater’s “Jacques Offenbach Prize” for best artistic performance and vocal development in 2009. In the same year, he won the Richard Wagner scholarship at the Bayreuth Festival and 2011 won a top award at the European Operetta Duet Competition in Poznań, Poland.
He has been an ensemble member of the Mecklenburg State Theater since 2009/2010 and has appeared there in such roles as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Fenton (Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Nero (Agrippina), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Orpheus (Orphée aux enfers), and Count Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia).
In the season 2014/2015 he made his debut as Pong (Turandot) with the National Opera in Bogotá, Colombia.
Other engagements have brought him to The Edinburgh International Festival, Schlossfestspiele Wernigerode, Opernfestspiele Heidenheim and the Eutin Opera Festival, as well as various guest performances with companies such as the Hannover State Opera, the Braunschweig State Theater, Schwerin State Theater, Stralsund Theater, Hof City Theater, and the Aachen City Theater.
